Applying psychology to help children, parents and carers, staff teams and organisations.

Preparing for primary school assessment

Lots of parents tell me that they worry about the transition from nursery or a childminder to primary school. I offer a one-hour long online meeting with parent(s)/ carer(s), during which I meet your child.

Following this meeting, I produce a written summary that can be shared with your child’s primary school. This will help teachers understand what your child might need extra help with. It can also be used as part of the graduated response for an Education, Health, and Care (EHC) plan.

Educational psychology assessment

Parents, carers, or education staff may wish to commission an assessment to find out a child’s individual strengths and needs. There could be many reasons for this, such as wanting to explore whether a child has a neurodevelopmental condition like dyslexia, whether a child needs extra time for formal assessments, or to try and best understand the best type of school placement for a child. In most cases, parents and educators tell me that they want to know how best to support a child. My role in achieving this is to ensure that evidence and practice-based recommendations and strategies are given alongside findings from the assessment.

Training and conferences

Staff development time is precious and therefore it is important to commission training that meets the needs of the team. Any training I deliver will be based on a discussion of the needs of the staff. I have developed training on topics such as mental health, dyslexia, ADHD, autism, anti-racism, supporting gender questioning children, relational practice, attachment, and trauma. With all training delivery, I pre-plan questionnaires which help to evidence the impact of the session.

I am an experienced conference speaker having delivered keynote speeches and sessions for local authorities, the National Literacy Trust, Foundations, Nesta, and BBC Children in Need We Move Fund.

Every child deserves to thrive with the right support, in the right environment.
