FAQ

  • What do Educational and Child Psychologists do?

I am a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Practitioner Psychologist. I am trained to work directly with parents and children aged 0-25 years. I usually see children who have additional needs under the four areas of the SEND Code of Practice. These are social, emotional and mental health, communication and interaction, cognition and learning, and sensory and physical.

  • Can you give a diagnosis?

I am able to identify conditions like dyslexia and dyscalculia. I can give an overview of a child’s needs to support diagnostic processes for autism, ADHD and dyspraxia, or for mental health needs. These are conditions I cannot diagnose as a sole practitioner, or as an Educational and Child Psychologist.

  • How long does an assessment take?

This will depend on the age of the child and the questions you would like answered. I usually recommend families set aside 3 hours, but this is something that will be discussed with you before I meet your child.

  • Do you work directly with parents and schools?

Often, we can achieve the best changes for a child by helping the adults who help them to do things differently. I offer consultations, parent support, training, and conference keynotes with the aim of upskilling adults who support children.

  • How far do you travel?

For conferences, please get in touch with your requirements as I am able to travel with advance notice.

For individual assessments, I travel up to 45 minutes from my location in HA1. If in doubt, get in touch to discuss.

  • How much will it cost?

My work depends on the what you require (factoring in things like travel, assessment or training materials needed), so a price will be agreed with you in advance of us working together.
